Nationwide occupier demand rose for a seventh consecutive quarter across each market sector, there was a sharp fall in availability of space compounded further by permitted development rights (PDR) and the strength of investment enquiries is pointing to further material gains in capital values.

Momentum seems to be shifting up a gear in some parts of the global commercial property market although the conditions vary considerably. Results show Japan continues on an upward trend despite the recession but it’s the United States (US) that shows some of the strongest momentum. Brazil’s results continue to decline while Russia appears to be feeling the effects of a raft of economic pressures. The outlook for India is, however, optimistic going forward.

The RICS Global Valuation Professional Group Board (GVB) has appointed its first chair based outside of the UK. Mike Steur FRICS is based in Sydney, Australia. He took up his position on 1 January 2015 and takes over from Mark Gerold.
