Consultations

Standards consultations

All RICS standards and professional guidance are subject to industry consultation prior to publication. Our online consultation platform allows us to canvass the opinions and expertise of members and other professionals during the development process.

Current consultations are introduced below. You are invited to review and comment on each draft, regardless of the area of specialism, within an allotted time frame (usually about one month). The process is simple and free, and no restrictions are placed on the number of comments you can make.

Commenting effectively

When commenting on an RICS consultation draft, please ensure you:

  • Comment on each individual section rather than adding all your comments to one section. Responses are collated automatically, so this will help us to present all comments to the working group in order
  • Avoid leaving comments that do not reflect a point of view (e.g. inserting 'okay' across a number of sections)
  • Keep comments as concise as possible

For further information, please contact the consultations team.

    Lessons Learned

This guidance raises awareness and understanding of the factors that contribute to project failure throughout the project life cycle and the importance of learning lessons to avoid repeating mistakes in the future. Although the primary focus is on the built environment, case studies and lessons learned are drawn from across different sectors.
