Strengthening trust: governance and transparency at RICS

RICS is guided by principles of transparent governance and empowering members to hold our leadership to account. There are many ways that members and stakeholders can stay informed and engaged with our governance bodies, to help ensure RICS’ continuing relevance, effectiveness, and positive impact on society.

On an annual basis, here are the different ways we share information on performance and strategy:

• The RICS Annual Review – a review of RICS’ performance over the previous year.
• This year the Standards and Regulation Board (SRB) will also release an Annual report for the SRB summarising their activities and performance during 2023.
• Audited Annual Financial Statements, Governance Report and Remuneration Report - Published annually ahead of each year’s AGM
• Global quarterly performance reports – a high-level overview of the organisation’s operational performance released every quarter.

Members are always welcome to ask questions about any aspect of RICS via their local Board or RICS representative. We also have Professional Group Panels (PGPs), representing our core pathways, for queries relating to professional practice.

Additionally, there are a number of channels for members to ask questions directly of the RICS Governing Council, presidential team and Executive Board. These are:

• Annual General Meeting – held in June, this is an opportunity for members to put forward questions to Governing Council (via the chair, who is also RICS President) and RICS CEO. This is a hybrid event so members can attend in person or online. Every question submitted is answered either at the event or shortly after, if time doesn’t permit on the day. A recording is also made available for viewing post-event.
• Governing Council recently agreed to introduce an additional mechanism for members to submit questions by email to Council, to be considered and answered at each of its meetings. These answers will be shared directly with questioners and published online. Questions can be submitted by emailing governance@rics.org.
• Members are welcome to email president@rics.org with relevant queries at any time.
