This course builds on the key skills of existing construction professionals to develop best practice for a Commercial Management role. From managing main stakeholders and understanding their drivers and motivations, to administrating the process of cost planning and benchmarking, risk, supply chains and procurement processes, this course delivers the fundamental skills required for best practice commercial delivery on a construction project.

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and skills in the core competencies of commercial management for infrastructure projects. Each content module is structured around one of the core competencies of the infrastructure pathway.

Module 1: Engineering Science and Technology
Module 2: Procurement and Tendering
Module 3: Cost Prediction, Quantification and Analysis
Module 4: Contract Practice
Module 5: Programming, Plannng and Project Controls
Module 6: Risk Management
Review and Reflect

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Implement and advise on appropriate contracts and procurement and tendering processes relevant to the project and client needs
  • Plan, manage and report on project costs accurately throughout the lifecycle of a project
  • Consider the impact of differing legal systems, contractual mechanisms and construction technology on costs

Course assessment

Upon completion of all technical modules, learners will take an examination to test knowledge. A certificate of completion will be awarded after passing the end of course assessment.
