Meet Pierre Stämpfli: our new chair

After the elections in September 2017, we introduce you to the new board, and their roles and responsibilities. We start with our new chairman, Pierre Stämpfli.

What is your role on the Swiss board?

I am honoured to be elected as the chairman. My role is to bring added value to the members and develop further the awareness of the organisation, as well as promote best practice.

We have the advantage of an international organisation behind us at the top of international best practice. We can use this unparalleled knowledge to exert influence on market practices in our country.

What do you want to achieve in your time on the board?

The story of RICS in Switzerland has been very successful so far and I want to build on what has been achieved by my predecessors. I think RICS can bring a lot to the Swiss real estate market. Our industry still suffers from a negative image. Through our positioning and our actions, we can contribute to more professional and more ethical behaviour in the real estate business, which in turn will improve the image. We have the advantage of an international organisation behind us at the top of international best practice. We can use this unparalleled knowledge to exert influence on market practices in our country.

What is your professional role and career path?

I am currently responsible for French-speaking Switzerland at Jones Lang LaSalle. We are property advisors active across all regions of the country. We focus on transactions, leasing, valuation and project management.

What first interested you in RICS?

The first time I heard about RICS was during my postgraduate course at CUREM. It was the first RICS-accredited course in Switzerland. I was always interested at looking beyond the borders. I joined RICS a few years later when I was working for DTZ, an international real estate advisor. RICS stands for quality, professionalism and ethical behaviour. It is perfectly in line with my values.

What first got you interested in a career in real estate?

I grew up in an environment of construction led by my father who was an architect. So, I always heard about buildings, construction, architecture etc. However, I discovered during my studies that I had better analytical and strategic thinking capacities than artistic talent. It led me almost naturally towards real estate.
