Last week, Ms An Nguyen MRICS was voted woman of the future for property, construction and infrastructure at the RICS-sponsored Women of the Future Awards Southeast Asia. Before flying back to Hanoi, we caught up with An and asked what this achievement means to her.
“It is a great honour for me to receive this award. It reflects the work I am doing with CBRE in Vietnam, where demand for properties, infrastructure, and construction has been rising rapidly. The environment requires property professionals to work hard to find the best solutions for investors, developers and buyers.
“I am humbled by the many other outstanding young women I’ve worked with in the industry. I continue to learn so much from my peers and have met some fantastic role models, both in Vietnam and the wider Asia Pacific region.
I want to support those that might not have the same opportunities I did and encourage them to work hard, stick to their values, and be heard. It should not matter whether the person is a woman or a man; in today’s world, opportunity is equal for those who are willing to take it.
“I am very grateful to Woman of the Future for providing an inspirational platform for women in Southeast Asia to be recognised. I am also grateful to CBRE, who have provided a fair and professional working environment with many talented leaders and colleagues – without them, I would not have achieved this.
“It is important for me to now expand my network further and help encourage young talent in the industry and beyond. I want to support those that might not have the same opportunities I did and encourage them to work hard, stick to their values, and be heard. It should not matter whether the person is a woman or a man; in today’s world, opportunity is equal for those who are willing to take it.
“I plan to use this achievement as a platform to bring together female talent in Vietnam and create a network in the real estate industry. I foresee this being of great support to those involved and I hope it will bring about a better life and greater values in the industry.”
After completing her MBA studies in the United States, An began her professional career as a senior analyst at CBRE Vietnam in 2010. Since then, she has been promoted to senior manager, associate director, and is now Director of Research and Consultancy Services.
Her current role includes oversight of CBRE’s research, consulting and valuation teams, making sure they meet sales target, controlling the quality of consultancy work, and ensuring they stay abreast of investment and development trends for investors and developers. Since assuming the role in Hanoi, the consultancy team’s revenue has grown, on average, by 30% compared to three years before.
An is an RICS professional and holds a valuer certificate to practice valuation work in Vietnam, issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance.
