Tijmen Dekkers, who has designed an idea to address the problem of resource scarcity in the Netherlands, will be mentored by Leon van Rijckevorsel MRICS, co-owner of the GreenDreamCompany in the final of the Cities for our Future competition run by RICS.
RICS is running the Cities for our Future competition, in partnership with the United Kingdom National Commission for UNESCO and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, to encourage young people around the world to think about the challenges facing the world’s cities and to draw upon their imagination and innovative ideas to create real, practical solutions that global cities can implement.
From the 1,200 entries initially submitted from across the globe,12 finalists are now developing their ideas, under the tutelage of industry experts. Leon van Rijckevorsel MRICS is a Dutch Project Manager who started a collaboration with the Dutch government 10 years ago to change rural areas in Africa into top tourism destination. Leon van Rijckevorsel is an experienced project developer and since 2008 he has been combining this with impact investments. With a University degree as Master Real Estate (MRE) and member of RICS he has a strong focus on ethical right behaviour. He understands the different cultures and oversees all stakeholders’ interests. He is co-owner of the GreenDreamCompany in the Netherlands.
Tijmen Dekkers, from the Netherlands, has proposed the development of the Delta X – a construction that captures and filters rainwater which is extremely strong, yet cheap and easy to build. He is one of 12 entrants on the final shortlist, which has been narrowed down from more than 1,200 entries. Tijmen Dekkers is now in with a chance of winning the competition’s €55,000 prize.
The winner of the competition will be announced in November 2018.
