Diploma qualifications in Dispute Resolution

DRS offers diploma qualifications in adjudication and arbitration.

Our training is focused specifically on property, the built environment and related sectors, and the qualifications are nationally accredited and recognised by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (OFQUAL).

Our courses are provided through distance learning which enables candidates to study in their own time. We provide candidates with a guided reading programme and access to an online community forum as part of the study programme.

Award in Adjudication

DRS has also developed an introductory distance learning course for those with little or no experience in adjudication. The Award in Adjudication is a 9-week Level 3 qualification that is also recognised by OFQUAL.

Diploma in Adjudication

This is an 18-month distance learning qualification which provides the essential grounding for those seeking to represent parties to adjudication or seeking to become an adjudicator. The Diploma qualification is an essential requirement for those seeking to join the RICS panel of adjudicators.

This Level 5 qualification consists of 4 units:

  • In Unit 1 candidates will spend 6 months studying the application of English law and the law of contract, tort and evidence to adjudication in the construction industry
  • Unit 2 concentrates on the application of the law of adjudication to the construction industry
  • Candidates consider practice and procedure of adjudication for the construction industry as part of their study of Unit 3
  • Unit 4 requires candidates to focus 6 months of the study programme on the production of an enforceable decision by an adjudicator in the construction industry

Diploma in Arbitration

The RICS Diploma in Arbitration is structured to be equivalent to a Level 7 qualification on the National Qualification framework, equating to a post graduate qualification.

This 18-month course consists of 3 modules, and has been designed to provide comprehensive and intensive training to develop your practical skills and knowledge and further your understanding of the principles of arbitration so that you can confidently advise or represent parties.

Course content:

  • Module 1 – Law of Obligations
  • Module 2 Part 1 – Arbitration Law including the Law of Evidence
  • Module 2 Part 2 – Practice and Procedure
  • Module 3 – Arbitration: Drafting, Award Writing and Evidence

This course is suitable for professionals working within the built environment who want to gain a comprehensive and practical knowledge of the arbitral process.

The Diploma in Arbitration provides candidates with an excellent grounding on arbitration for those seeking to represent parties in an arbitration, or seeking to become an arbitrator.
