Orkney’s, John Rae (1813-1893) is well known as an arctic explorer and surgeon but until now his considerable achievements as a land surveyor have been less well recognised.
Celebrating members of the profession who have progressed the understanding of the physical location of territorial borders, features of geography, and land use including transportation infrastructure and buildings.
It’s easy to assess what we do today, or what we did in the past. Trying to plan for the future is a much more daunting prospect.
