RICS and the end of the First World War
By coincidence, the presidential address for 1918 to celebrate 50 years of the Surveyors’ Institution was given on the day the First World War ended, 11 November 1918.
11 November marks the centenary of the armistice which ceased fighting and brought an end to the First World War.
We are using this anniverary to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices of surveyors during conflicts in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries.
Since 2014, we have used the anniversaries of the war's outbreak and significant battles to highlight the lives of individual surveyors and the role they played in the conflict. You can discover their stories in the articles below.
Our Head of Reference Services, Cathy Linacre, has compiled a Roll of Honour of the men who died during the First World War including their membership status and employment before the war, their rank and regiment during the war and when and where they died and are buried.
