Benedict Tan FRICS is a chartered quantity surveyor based in Singapore who has 47 years of experience in transforming Singapore’s built environment. Being one of the first qualified chartered surveyors in Singapore, Benedict’s professional credentials provide evidence of the highest professional and ethical standards.
Benedict qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1971 and began his career at Singapore’s Public Works Department, now known as the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). For nearly 50 years, he has been involved in the rapid development of Singapore’s public infrastructure and has played a vital role in the delivery of development programmes to build schools, hospitals, roads, expressways, offices building and the iconic Changi Airport.
Benedict’s primary role was to oversee the development of Changi Airport’s building control system and is he is proud to have been part of the development and evolution of the effective and robust building control systems that exist in Singapore today.
As a qualified chartered surveyor, Benedict was able to compare the differences between local and international standards, which placed him in a position to develop and advise on new practices.
Having retired in January 2018 from his role as a senior advisor of the BCA, Benedict now dedicates his time to fulfilling the role of a senior adjudicator. Registered with the Singapore Mediation Centre, he is still actively involved in adjudicating construction disputes.
