The BCIS five-year forecast for the facilities management sector sees maintenance cost inflation rising by 2.3% to Q3 2018 and by a further 2.6% to Q1 2019. It is then forecast to rise by between 2.9% and 3.8% over the next three years.
Private housebuilders' costs increased by 4.6% in the year to Q3 2017 in response to demand pressures on resources. They have been rising steadily since the beginning of 2014.

Tender prices have risen significantly in 2017 so far, but with output remaining unchanged in 2018, and with uncertainty about the effect of Brexit negotiations in the private commercial sector, tender prices are expected to fall in the year to 3rd quarter 2018, according to the latest BCIS five-year forecast.

The £60.9 billion annual spend on building maintenance (current prices) makes a significant contribution to the economy, accounting for over 3% of GDP.
The proportion of projects submitted to BCIS that were let on design and build contracts rose from 28% to 58% over the past 10 years, reflecting the changes in procurement in the industry.

The annual climate change conference convened by the United Nations aims to move forward the commitments made at COP21 under the Paris Agreement in 2015. COP23 takes place from 6 to 17 November 2017 in Bonn, Germany.
