All Students & Candidates registered with RICS are Regulated Members and are bound by RICS’ Charter, Bye-Laws, Regulations, Rules of Conduct, Standards and Guidance.
Grow your network – you are a part of RICS Matrics
You automatically become a member of RICS Matrics as part of your RICS Student status. It not only provides an excellent network of local, regional and nationwide contacts but provides a good source of advice as well as being good fun – with regular social events and networking opportunities.
RICS Students are encouraged to become involved locally and can benefit from mentoring schemes, access to literature and market intelligence. Career advice and APC mentoring support ARE provided in a social environment as well as more formally as part of the university visits and forums. Placements and business opportunities are often offered as part of the RICS Matrics network.

Once you are working in the field of surveying you can enrol on our Assessment of Professional Competency (APC) and start your journey to becoming a Chartered Surveyor.

Work Placements
You can start your journey to an RICS qualification whilst undertaking a work placement as part of your RICS Accredited Sandwich Degree. You will need to enrol onto the Assessment of Professional Competence.
Before applying your will need the following:
- Choose a sector pathway suitable to your planned placement experience,
- Gain the support and guidance from your employer and a counsellor (who must be a professional member – MRICS/FRICS). More information on how to find a counsellor and their role can be found here.
You then need to enrol onto the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), with structured training at Apply to join RICS. You will require the following during your application:
- Your Counsellors details.
- Details of your degree and proof of attendance.
- A credit/debit card for payment.
As part of the enrolment process you will need to pay for your assessment fee and a subscription fee. Membership is renewed annually, and a concession will be applied to your account the following year when you return to university to complete your degree so you will not be charged a subscription for your year of study.
