Following the publication of IPMS: All Buildings, please note this document is in the process of being updated.

During this interim period, when using the 6th edition of the Code, RICS members and RICS regulated firms should continue to adopt the appropriate measurement basis so as to satisfy the requirements of the instruction. The basis of measurement used should be documented.

Please see the RICS website for further updates.

The bases of measurement contained with the Code of Measuring Practice, 6th edition applies to all building classes except offices and residential buildings.

However, the application of the professional statement contained within RICS property measurement, 2nd edition equally applies to building classes. For offices and residential buildings RICS members and RICS-regulated firms should use IPMS and if IPMS is not used the reason for departure must be stated.

Code of measuring practice became globally effective in May 2015.
