Pathways and competencies

In collaboration with RICS professionals, our pathways to professional qualification define the knowledge, skills, experience and competence required to become a chartered surveyor.

Competencies are a mix of technical and professional practice, business, interpersonal, and management skills, which can be applied to different areas of practice and geographical locations.

The new framework launched on 1 August 2018. We’re publishing the new content now so, if you’re a candidate, employer, assessor or have an interest in RICS assessments, you can see the changes made.

Any candidates already enrolled on the current set of pathway guides, or who enrol onto the current framework before 1 August 2018 can continue as normal, and will be able to come forward for assessment on their current pathway. We expect the last assessments to take place on the current version in late 2020. Resources for these assessments can be found on RICS' Assessment Resource Centre (ARC).
