Diversity and inclusion

Building a 21st century professional body through equality, diversity and inclusion.

The surveying profession needs a diverse workforce in order to utilise the innovative skills and technologies required by consumers in the built and natural environments.

It is our responsibility to tackle barriers to entry and encourage a more diverse profession. By increasing diversity within the profession and choosing from a bigger talent pool and developing a strategy to change the image of non-traditional education routes.

Flying the flag for LGBT Pride

We're proud to be joining in the Pride celebrations this month. Our bright rainbow flag is now flying outside our headquarters on Parliament Square, and we are looking forward to supporting our industry's leading diversity and inclusion networks at upcoming Pride events across the UK.

Building Equality

RICS is sponsoring Building Equality – an LGBT working group for those in construction – at Salford Pride (22 June) and the Manchester Pride event (24 August) where they will be championing LGBT inclusion and diversity in the construction industry.
Representatives from leading construction and development companies will once again march alongside an eye-catching rainbow JCB digger, which always proves to be a big attraction.

Freehold & Changing the Face of Property

We are also sponsoring Freehold and Changing the Face of Property (Property Needs You) as they take part together in London's Pride Parade on 6 July.

Freehold is a networking forum for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender real estate professionals, whilst Property Needs You is a UK wide initiative that works with young people, parents, teachers and careers advisors to raise awareness of the career opportunities available for all in the property industry.

Members from both groups will march together to raise awareness of LGBT issues within the industry, as well as to promote diversity and inclusion.

Respecting and valuing differences, with a commitment to equal treatment and equal opportunity, ensures that firms can deliver policies and outcomes which are fair and transparent as well as ensuring that businesses are fit and relevant for the future.
