CEIV Credential – Mandatory Performance Framework

Launched in 2017, the Certified in Entity and Intangible ValuationsTM (CEIVTM) Credential sets the new standard for business valuation professionals by asking them to comply with a set of requirements including the Mandatory Performance Framework (MPF or framework).

Course information

In this course, you will get to grips with the key principles of the framework, illustrated in a series of interactive videos, eLearning modules, comprehensive case studies, and challenging practice questions aligned with the CEIV exam. Each module tackles one of the three central themes of the framework: valuation engagement guidance, entity valuation, and intangible asset valuation & discount rates.

By the conclusion of the course you will be knowledgeable of ‘how much’ work is necessary to meet the requirements of the MPF and therefore be able to provide supportable and auditable fair value measurements.

This course is designed for valuation professionals looking to prepare for the Mandatory Performance Framework module of the CEIV qualification. It is also relevant to individuals in related professions, such as audit, who need to understand the principles of the framework and its Application in their everyday work.

For professionals seeking to attain the CEIV Credential, this course follows the successful completion of the Body of Knowledge training and must be completed prior to undertaking the CEIV qualifying exam.

Who Should Attend?

  • Valuation professionals required to provide valuations for financial reporting purposes. Those taking the course as part of the CEIV credential will be required to meet the minimum requirements for doing so – see here
  • Junior valuation professionals, who may not yet be eligible to apply for the credential, but require to work with reports that comply with the MPF.
  • Related professions, primarily senior management of the entities being valued and their auditors.

Pre-requisites - CEIV credential

  • 3,000 hours fair value measurement over five years preceding applications (attestation required) 
  • Approved Valuation Professional Organization (VPO) membership with Business Valuation accreditation
  • Successful completion of approved VPO Body of Knowledge and Mandatory Performance Framework training 
  • Passing score on the two-part CEIV examination 

Course pre-requisites

Participants should have 3,000 hours performing fair value measurements or experience in Business Valuation and Intangible Assets for financial reporting purposes.

Module 1: Valuation Engagement Guidance

  • Recall the Documentation Requirements for an Engagement Letter and a Valuation Report

Module 2: Entity Valuation

  • Describe the common concepts of fair value measurements
  • Identify the common components of an Entity Valuation 
  • Recall the documentation requirements of each common component

Module 3: Intangible Asset Valuation & Discount Rates

  • Identify the common components of an Intangible Asset, contract liabilities, and inventory
  • Assemble the documentation requirements for each common component 
  • Justify which model is most appropriate to derive a discount rate and ensure the rationale

  • Video segments (totaling to 45 minutes)
