Overview

Gracemount Mansion is an historic building with a fascinating history an exciting future.

Built in 1780 as a private home, the mansion has since been used as a home for nurses and as a youth club. Sadly it has fallen into a state of disrepair and now needs significant conservation and repair work.

A desire to save the building and see it brought back into use has led to the Gracemount Mansion Development Trust being formed, with local people coming together to raise funding, carry out necessary works and enabling it to be at the heart of the local community once more.

The aim is to reopen the Mansion House as a community hub offering a range of learning, volunteering, social, environmental and heritage activities to provide health, wellbeing and economic benefits for the community. The Trust are also looking to offer spaces for music and art events, lectures, a base for outdoor educational and special interest groups, and social events.

This tour offers a fantastic opportunity to view one of Edinburgh’s lesser known historic buildings, to learn about the challenges of working on an historic building, the realities of a community-led project and to find out more about the work of the Trust.

Attendees must bring PPE – safety boots, a hard and high-vis jacket.

Meeting Point: outside the main (west facing) entrance door.
