When a candidate nominates you as their Counsellor, you must approve or reject the nomination in the Assessment Platform.

Once you approve the nomination, you can:

  • View their details
  • Track their progress
  • Review and approve their submissions

Training requirement

You must complete the RICS Counsellor Module before approving a candidate for Preliminary Review or Final Assessment.

You cannot approve submissions in the Assessment Platform until the module is complete.

We recommend reading the latest Counsellor Guide alongside the module. Together, they count as 2 hours of structured CPD and set out your responsibilities.

Supporting your candidates

You do not need to wait for an email to take action.

When a candidate uploads documents, you will receive a notification. However, you can log in to the Assessment Platform at any time to:

  • Check progress
  • Review submissions
  • Provide support and feedback

Familiarising yourself with the platform early will help you support your candidates more effectively.

Preparing your candidate for final assessment

Final assessment is a significant milestone in your candidate’s journey to becoming an RICS member and requires careful preparation.

To support you at this stage, we recommend completing Counsellor Briefing – Part 2, available free on the Online Learning Academy.

The briefing provides practical guidance on mock interviews, structured Q&A sessions and how to prepare your candidate with confidence.
