Frequently asked questions

Expressions of interest are reviewed annually to allow for a more diverse group of judges from across the industry to be part of our judging panels. Applicants indicate their interest by submitting their application form. The Head Judge will work closely with RICS to fill any vacancies. A paper-based selection process is proposed for the Judges to ensure that this process is completed in an efficient, transparent, and clear manner.

The Judging panels consist of a Head Judge (RICS Professional), plus regional Judges with specialist knowledge and experience to cover all Award categories and volume of entries. Using the entry materials provided, they will discuss and decide which projects will be shortlisted. Once the Judging has been completed, the jury will recommend their RICS Award winners.

The following time commitment is expected from an RICS Awards Judge to perform their duties that will include but is not limited to:

  • Review and score entries for each category.
  • Shortlisting and judging will be paper-based and take place at the opening meeting and judges deem which projects will require a site visit (UK only)
  • Attending (as invited) other meetings to be held remotely.
  • Promotion of the RICS Awards through social media.
  • Judges give an incredible amount of personal and professional time to the Awards and will be invited as a guest to attend the Awards Ceremony.

All expense payments will be made in accordance with the RICS Members expenses policy that will be provided in the Judges handbook.
