RICS aims to be a world-class member organisation, recognised as being at the forefront of responsibly enhancing the natural and built environment for the public interest.

Our strategy, Future Foundations, was introduced in early 2024 and updated in October 2025. It centres on five strategic goals that define what success looks like for our members, the profession and the public we serve.

By working towards these goals, RICS seeks to strengthen its role as a trusted, world-class professional body. This approach will keep us forward-looking, member-centric, and focused on making a positive difference for society now and in the future.

Our strategic goals

RICS will be a member centric organisation, and the professional body of choice for all those working in the natural and built environment. Globally, members will value their membership and will feel supported and empowered by their institution, and respected by clients, other professions and society as a whole.

Globally, individuals from all backgrounds and at all stages of their life will seek, and be able to seamlessly attain, membership of RICS. We will be seen as an inclusive profession which values diverse backgrounds and experience and is an enabler of social mobility. As we broaden access to the surveying profession and diversify our membership, our global population of trained professionals will better reflect the societies they serve.

We will ensure all Chartered surveyors are equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience they need to succeed throughout their professional journey. We will work to instil a culture of learning and improvement across surveyors, ensuring that our members have a variety of skills (from specific surveying disciplines to business skills) to be able to tackle a wide variety of issues.

RICS members will be recognised for their honesty, integrity, competence, high-level of service, and responsibility. They will have the confidence of their clients, consumers, regulators, governments and wider society for their commitment to the public advantage. RICS will be seen as regulating effectively and providing insights and guidance on the most pressing issues affecting the natural and built environment. This will ensure the value of being in the profession – in comparison to not being chartered.

RICS will be recognised by members and stakeholders as providing expertise in the natural and built environment.  Through knowledge of RICS standards members will also be regarded as experts globally. RICS will be a thought leader in its own right with its own unique products and services. It will also partner with other institutions and organisations in this endeavour and in some areas will take on the role of convenor and facilitator, rather than creator.

Frequently asked questions

All of our Corporate Key Results have been developed to show progress towards the strategy.

This strategy was initially set in 2024, it was refreshed by the Governing Council in 2025 and therefore remains relevant. However, it is due to be re-assessed during 2027.

Our strategy was refreshed by Governing Council in the summer of 2025. It was simplified to only contain a Vision and Strategic Goals. It is also more accurate reflects the position of the organisation now.

We are a global organisation, and this is a central part of our strategy which is reflected in everything we do. This is why being global is reflected in each of the strategic goals rather than being a standalone goal.
