As AEC industries transition from vector based drawings to model based design, laser scanners will become standard survey equipment. Evolving processes and workflows like BIM and VDC have proven to be efficient approaches because of the reduction in rework that is typically due to costly onsite revisions. These evolving methodologies support the use of laser scanners throughout the construction process, as point cloud data capture is relied upon for modelling existing conditions, assessing construction, tracking assets and supporting facility management. This is an exciting time for the industry and surveyors are at the forefront of this revolution.
