Deliver construction and infrastructure projects on time and in budget. A fresh new approach to the better management and avoidance of disputes, the RICS Conflict Avoidance Process (CAP) encourages parties to act collaboratively and resolve disagreements before they escalate.

What is CAP?

CAP is a government-endorsed, proven approach that delivers expert, impartial recommendations in real time. It provides contracting parties with pragmatic solutions to resolve emerging issues quickly, avoiding escalation to costly dispute resolution.

How CAP works

RICS appoints a CAP Panel made of subject-matter experts to work collaboratively with parties, swiftly identify the core issues, and deliver a reasoned report containing practical recommendations for resolution. CAP can be written into contracts (see sample clauses below), or it can be utilised on an ad-hoc basis by agreement between the parties.

Key benefits of CAP

CAP offers a fast, cost-effective, and collaborative way to resolve issues early. It focuses on preserving relationships, keeping parties in control, and providing impartial guidance without the commitment or cost of formal proceedings.
