RICS strengthens its presence in Japan with Recognition of Professional Qualifications (RPQ) agreements with three leading Japanese professional bodies: ARES, JAREA, and BSIJ.

These agreements recognise the high professional and ethical standards of each organisation and provide eligible members with a clear route to RICS membership through RPQ.

The agreements support professionals across key areas of the built environment and property sector:

  • ARES (Association for Real Estate Securitization), representing specialists in real estate investment and securitisation
  • JAREA (Japan Association of Real Estate Appraisers), the national professional body for licensed valuation professionals
  • BSIJ (Building Surveyors Institute of Japan), representing quantity surveying and cost management professionals

For existing RICS members in Japan, these agreements strengthen collaboration with respected local professional bodies and reinforce RICS’ commitment to upholding consistent global standards while recognising local expertise.

For eligible members of ARES, JAREA and BSIJ, the RPQ route offers the opportunity to join a globally recognised professional body. RICS membership acts as a global professional passport, supporting international recognition, career mobility and the ability to work across markets and jurisdictions while demonstrating a commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.

Applicants admitted through RPQ will be required to complete and maintain RICS’ professionalism and ethics requirements prior to becoming members.

Further information on eligibility and the application process can be found at Recognition of Professional Qualifications.
