RICS supports efforts to strengthen professionalism across the property sector

RICS welcomes the announcements by Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Angela Rayner at the Labour Party Conference today on plans to increase the professionalisation of property agents.

The proposals include the creation of an independent regulator for managing agents and new licensing requirements for estate and letting agents.

RICS has long championed and supported the drive for greater professionalisation across the sector to better protect leaseholders, renters and homeowners, and we look forward to engaging constructively with Government as these proposals are developed, within which professional bodies will play a critical role.

The future framework will benefit from the involvement, expertise and experience of RICS in setting and upholding standards, qualifications and lifelong competency across the built environment.

As Government takes these proposals forward, RICS will support the development of a proportionate and effective framework that creates a level playing field, by raising standards, strengthening competence and improving consumer confidence across the board.
