Overview

Fire safety is an increasingly important consideration for property professionals, but understanding what compliance means in the Guernsey context, who is responsible for what, and the limits of our own professional competence is not always straightforward.

Guernsey Local Member Group is bringing together representatives from Guernsey Building Control, Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service and experienced industry professionals for a practical CPD session examining fire safety from three complementary perspectives.

Schedule

13:00 – AGM

13:30 – Presentations

16:00 – Panel Q&A

16:30 – Close

Key topics

  • Building control: what fire compliance looks like under the Guernsey regulatory framework and what Building Control expects from property and construction professionals.
  • Fire & rescue: fire safety from the operational and enforcement perspective, common issues encountered, and what good practice looks like.
  • RICS professional standards: professional competence, scope of service, and recognising when a matter falls outside a surveyor's competence and specialist input should be sought.
  • The interfaces: where the responsibilities of owners, designers, surveyors, regulators and fire-safety professionals meet.
  • Practical scenarios: how members should approach fire-safety matters encountered during inspections, projects and professional advice.
