Why is this topic important?

The latest edition of RICS Valuation – Global Standards ('Red Book Global Standards') is effective from 31st January 2022. It is mandatory for RICS members undertaking valuation services, but is also a useful reference for valuation users and other stakeholders. This course provides the context for the Global Red Book 2022, explains its importance to Valuers and their clients worldwide. Learners will be taught the fundamental principles underpinning their use, and the mandatory rules, best practice guidance and related commentary for all members undertaking asset valuations.

Module 1 Global Red Book

  • PART 1: INTRODUCTION
  • PART 2: PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS 1 AND 2
  • PART 3: VPS (Valuation Practice Statements)
  • PART 4: VPGAS - SPECIALIST REQUIREMENTS

Module 2 Valuer Registration

Certification of completion will be granted subject to finishing all learning components and passing the assessment.

Meet the trainers

Kate Taylor, FRICS Assoc CIPD

Kate is an experienced RICS APC Assessor, APC auditor, RICS UK APC Appeal Panel and Chairperson with a passion for professional development. She has been involved with helping RICS Education Standards Board to update the valuation, residential and commercial real estate pathways for 2018 and is now the lead RICS APC Trainer delivering APC Prep Days to hundreds of candidates every year. Kate is also the lead RICS Valuation Tutor for the distance learning courses in valuation. She designs and delivers valuation online learning as well as tutoring candidates from all around the globe. She is also delighted to have been elected to the board of LionHeart as a trustee of the charity.

What is your impression on the latest changes in Global Red Book 2022? Why are they important?

The latest changes to the Red Book seem minor, but they are a highly significant change in focus. It’s about bringing the valuation risk caused by seismic shifts in the global real estate market to the forefront of the valuation thought process and reflecting this explicitly in reporting to client.Sustainability and ESG are becoming the most significant drivers of investment decisions across global business. Valuation has to reflect the real world. The Red Book updates are about making clients aware that RICS valuers are on board and in the loop and providing the information that they need.
