As a Project Director with over 15 years of experience in the built environment, I have learned that the greatest determinant of project success is how early - and how effectively - we manage misunderstandings. This is why I pursued the RICS Mediation Training. De-escalation and alternative dispute resolution are not just skills; they are strategic necessities for sustainable project delivery and long-term professional relationships.

The RICS programme exceeded expectations. Learning under the leadership of John Fletcher brought a depth of expertise that shaped the entire experience. The practical role plays, guided by Raj Sohal, Leonora Riesenburg, and Victor Leginsky, translated theory into real capability. The coordination from Yasmine Nashawati and the DRS team ensured a seamless and engaging learning journey.

From the first week after the course, I began applying structured mediation techniques in daily interactions - resolving issues before they materialised, reducing friction, and improving communication between stakeholders. The training also influenced my strategic decisions: I now recommend adding mediation clauses to new contracts to enable early resolution pathways.

The biggest professional benefit has been credibility. Being RICS-accredited signals trust to clients and partners and has supported my application to the newly launched DIFC Mediation Centre. Even personally, the skills have helped me navigate and resolve difficult situations within family and friendships.

It was truly a transformative experience.
