RICS welcomes the announcement of the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill - much of which looks set to enable local communities to make key decisions which could unleash economic growth potential across the country.
As we see built environment powers expand across different levels of policymaking in the UK, we'll be analysing the implications carefully to ensure the devolution of the sector can support local growth, and enhancements in sustainability, investment and placemaking.
The Bill needs to be designed carefully to ensure reforms to planning, skills and infrastructure does not create additional layers of red-tape for those working in the sector and deter much-needed investment. RICS are already working with members to review and shape the response to the Bill’s proposals to abolish Upward Only Rent Reviews.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will review and respond to the wider legislation, meeting with members, policymakers and industry to ensure the Bill supports businesses and communities, whilst also creating an environment to attract growth and investment.
