RICS welcomes the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG)’s prospectus setting out its proposals for the design of its single construction regulator – a recommendation following the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
RICS is committed to building and maintaining trust and confidence in the surveying profession for the public advantage. Within RICS, our regulatory framework is independently overseen by the Standards and Regulation Board (SRB). The SRB is responsible for setting professional standards, assuring entry to the profession and the ongoing competence of our professionals and taking enforcement action where members and firms fail to meet our standards.
RICS CEO Justin Young said:
“The Government’s commitment to work closely with existing regulators and professional bodies is the right approach that encompasses existing best practice, promotes innovation and embraces wider government policy.
“RICS will respond with input from our member experts and continue to support the Government’s efforts to raise safety standards across the construction and built environment sectors and to remove blockers slowing down delivery.
“We look forward to continuing to work with MHCLG and the Building Safety Regulator to ensure the whole of the built environment sector is supported to deliver the Government’s rightfully ambitious agenda on housing delivery, new towns, infrastructure and placemaking.”
