RICS in Qatar: Commercial Mediation in Qatar: A Practical Introduction

Wed 21 Jan 2026 18:30 - 20:00 AST 2 Hours Formal CPD
location_on

Millennium Plaza Doha, Al Sadd, Doha

In-Person

Join us for the first Qatar CPD of the year, which will be an insightful session on the increasing role importance that Mediation is playing in resolving commercial disputes in Qatar. The evening will also provide networking opportunities with other professional working in Doha.

The session will be delivered by Richard Ashmore, Senior Associate, Construction, advisory & disputes Pinsent Masons LLPs Doha’s office.

Richard will discuss how Mediation can allow parties to maintain commercial relationships which can otherwise be damaged by protracted litigation or arbitration. As many commercial contracts require disputes to be referred to mediation before the commencement of litigation or arbitration, the introduction of Qatar’s Mediation Law in 2021 has further strengthened this requirement by imposing sanctions on parties who unjustifiably refuse to mediate.

This CPD will introduce the role of mediation in commercial dispute resolution in Qatar and how it works from a practical perspective.

At the end of this event, attendees will understand:

  • The important role of mediation in resolving disputes in Qatar.
  • When mediation is compulsory.
  • The potentially serious consequences of failing to comply with a contractual requirement to mediate.
  • What to expect when participating in a mediation, including how a mediator is selected and appointed, a typical timetable for a mediation, what happens at the mediation hearing, and what happens if the mediation is successful or unsuccessful.
