Overview

Join us for the first Oman CPD of the year, which will be an insightful briefing session on the Oman Building Code in collaboration with CIOB, with the support of the QS Oman Association.

This key session will be delivered by Fatin Shalwani, Sara Al Hinai and Hafsa Al Balushi of Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MoHUP), who formed part of the MoHUP personnel who were responsible for co-ordinating consultations and drafting of the new Building Code launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning in 2025. The new building code is the first update of such since the 1980’s and will help to shape the built environment within the Sultanate of Oman in the decades to come, specifically under the auspices of Vision 2040 in the Sultanate of Oman.

Fatin Kamil Shalwani is an Architectural Engineer, and Technical Projects Lead, at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning in Oman, contributing to national initiatives in urban planning and building regulation, including structure plans, future cities projects, and the Oman Building Code.

Sara Al Hinai

Urban Project Engineer, Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning

Sara Al Hinai is an Urban Project Engineer at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, with a background in civil engineering and sustainable infrastructure. Her experience includes urban research, municipal-scale projects, national regulatory frameworks, and contributions to initiatives such as the Oman Building Code.

Hafsa Al Balushi

Hafsa Al Balushi

Architect, Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning

An architectural engineer working on national-level initiatives, with a key role in the Oman Building Code, where she contributes to the development of regulatory, technical, and institutional frameworks that enhance the quality, safety, and sustainability of the built environment. She has prior professional experience with an international consultancy firm, where she worked on large-scale projects. Alongside her professional practice, her master’s thesis focused on liveable and sustainable city concepts.
