James Chau is a news anchor. He presents Global Future with James Chau, a talk show with leaders who shape our choices in a rapidly changing world. The first season broadcast on CGTN, featuring Christine Lagarde, Jimmy Carter, Alicia Garza and Arianna Huffington.
Born in London, he studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated from Cambridge University. He was a longtime anchor on China Central Television and a guest presenter on BBC World News. He has written for Newsweek and the Huffington Post, and is followed by over 1.6 million people on social media.
He works extensively with the United Nations. In 2009, he was appointed UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador, and since 2016 has also served as World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador — a role he shares with China’s First Lady Peng Liyuan, and philanthropist Michael Bloomberg. He has earned a special reputation for his in-depth interviews with world leaders in politics and science. In December 2016, he spoke in New York with Ban Ki-moon in his last interview as UN Secretary-General.
He has also interviewed Nobel Peace Prize winners Kofi Annan, Muhammad Yunus and Aung Sang Suu Kyi, and amongst others Tung Chee-hwa, Winnie Mandela, Robert Mugabe, Paul Kagame, Joko Widodo, Klaus Schwab, David Cameron, Gordon Brown, George Osborne, Elton John, Annie Lennox and Peng Liyuan.
He is a frequent speaker at international events. He was invited by the Alibaba Group to moderate at the G20 Summit with Jack Ma, Justin Trudeau and Malcolm Turnbull. He also facilitated a conversation with Laura Bush and Charlize Theron, and at President Vladimir Putin’s Global Ministerial Conference in Moscow.
He is a Trustee of the Menuhin Competition and a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum. He lives in Beijing and Hong Kong.
