Governing Council membership

  • The July Governing Council meeting was chaired by Nick Maclean OBE RD FRICS as Acting President.
     

Transformation and Financial Performance

  • Council received an update on the RICS transformation progamme with particular focus on the impact of the new operating model and the June financial position.
     

Concessions

  • Council received a report on progress made on reviewing concessions. The Executive will come back to GC with a final proposal before year end.
     

Subscriptions

  • Council endorsed the MRICS subscription fee, which is the anchor for all other rates.
     

RICS and CICES (Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors) Joint Membership

  • Council confirmed support for the process for members of CICES to be awarded the Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Civil Engineering Surveyor designations, through a new RICS-CICES Joint Membership Product. The maintenance of qualification standards was critical to both bodies.
     

Entry & Assessment

  • Council discussed the current position on the Entry & Assessment implementation programme and received feedback from the Council sponsors of the project.
     

Continuing Professional Development

  • Council received an update on revision of the CPD Framework, the ongoing review of CPD products and content, and development of the Member App.
     

Future of Education

  • Council received a presentation from a guest speaker from Coursera (online course provider) to inform a discussion on the future of education.
     

Dispute Resolution Service

  • Council received a presentation on the work of the DRS, which is RICS’ alternative dispute resolution function, include on opportunities to expand the reach of this service outside of UK.
     

Horizon Scanning

  • Council received a presentation from RICS’ Chief Economist looking at short-term and long-term economic forecast in the UK and globally, which provided a framework for Council discussion of the implications for RICS.
     

RICS Strategy and Long-Term Vision

  • The Senior Independent Governor Liz Peace and the CEO Justin Young led a session in which Council reviewed RICS’ current strategy for 2024-2026 and the long-term vision for the institution. Work will now be undertaken to hone RICS objectives for the benefit of members and taking account of the Institution’s ‘public advantage’ responsibility.

Q&A Sessions with Board Chairs and Executive Officers

  • To compliment ongoing dialogue between governance bodies, Nick Maclean chaired open discussion sessions for Council to raise questions with the Chair of SRB Nigel Clarke and the SEO Chris Alder, and with the RICS Board Chair Martin Samworth and the CEO Justin Young.

  • Council considered its response to the one question received for the July meeting, which related to regional budgets. Council’s response is to be published separately.
