A variation in a project is one of the main reasons that a contract can fall into dispute. To avoid this potentially costly delay in a project, issuing, valuing and then managing a variation to a contract properly is extremely important.

This one-day course on variations management provides a practical insight in managing a variation change avoiding costs and delays. It will also introduce you the best practice contract procedures for the variation of a contract, including how to issue instruction, keeping records and how to value variations. The course will also provide real-life case studies on projects experiencing variations and what they do to manage the variations.

Meet the trainer

Wong Chong Wei, Director, WCW Consulting Sdn. Bhd.

BSc(Build), MSc (Construction Project Management), MBA, DipArb, FRICS, MCIArb, MMIArb, MMSAdj, Chartered Quantity Surveyor, CIArb Accredited Mediator, Adjudicator & Mediator (AIAC).

Chong Wei is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, involving in major infrastructure and commercial development projects such as Formula One Racing Circuit (Sepang), large commercial shopping malls, and some overseas tenders and construction and property market research assignments in Malaysia, Vietnam and other Middle Eastern countries

He specialises in expert advice and assistance on commercial and contractual matters, including expert witness appointments, and provision of professional services and assistance with adjudication, mediations, dispute resolution and contract administration services. His experience also encompasses project management, pre and post contract administration, and claims preparation and negotiation, conduct in-house training and seminars. Chong Wei has accepted the appointments as the Adjudicator and Mediator in a number of construction disputes.

Chong Wei is actively involved in the activities of professional institution where he is former Board Member (2014-2018) of the RICS Malaysia. He is RICS Accreditation Panel Member for Q.S. degree programme. He is also trained as a RICS Assessor since 2015 for the APC for new RICS members. As a passionate member of the Malaysian construction industry, he has frequently acted as counsellor and mentor for prospective APC candidates in their assessments.

Chong Wei is also contributing to the academic body in the construction area where he is a part-time lecturer for BQS(Hons) degree programme at Taylor’s University, Malaysia and Adjunct Lecturer at University of Reading, Malaysia.
