Overview
Climate change, increasingly frequent extreme weather events, ageing infrastructure and evolving regulatory expectations are reshaping how buildings are designed, refurbished and managed. Building resilience is no longer solely about meeting today's compliance requirements. It is about ensuring buildings remain safe, functional, adaptable and economically viable throughout their lifecycle.
This webinar will explore how resilience planning can be integrated into building design and asset management from the earliest project stages. It will examine the role of building surveyors and building control professionals in identifying and mitigating physical, environmental and operational risks, while balancing sustainability, occupant wellbeing, cost and long-term performance. Drawing on current standards, industry guidance and practical examples, the session will provide delegates with an understanding of resilient design principles and how they can be applied across new developments and existing buildings.

Emily Mansfield
Head of Sustainability, Baily Garner
Emily is an Energy and Building Physics Consultant with over 15 years of experience across domestic and non-domestic projects. She leads energy and thermal comfort assessments, ensuring compliance with legislation and planning policy. She specialises in EPCs, Passivhaus, and advising design teams on sustainable solutions. Her portfolio spans single homes to high-rise, mixed-use developments. She has also acted as sustainability advisory/guardian with Local Authorities and other clients, and delivers tailored seminars to clients, promoting knowledge sharing and advancing sustainability in the built environment.
Matthew Allcock MRICS
Affiliate IEMA, PG Dip
Matthew is a Chartered Building Surveyor specialising in retrofit. He is Baily Garner’s Retrofit Technical Lead and has facilitated technical workshops and away days for clients, alongside providing day-to-day specialist retrofit advice. Matthew has a passion for environmental matters and takes a keen interest in sustainable building practices and techniques. He won Retrofit Coordinator of the year at the 2025 Retrofit Academy Awards.
James Robinson
Chartered Senior Consultant, GeoSmart
Information, specialising in flood risk assessments for both planning and due diligence, covering residential, commercial and mixed-use developments. He has significant experience in environmental planning and flood risk management, ensuring complex flood information is communicated effectively and translated into practical guidance and building design measures. James regularly delivers CPD presentations on flood risk management and emerging changes in planning policy.
