Overview

Procurement and tendering are among the most important commercial competencies for surveyors. This Face-to-Face Training Workshop is designed to close that gap by focusing on the practical decisions, commercial judgement, and risk considerations that underpin successful procurement outcomes.

The course is particularly relevant for RICS APC candidates and practising surveyors who need to demonstrate sound procurement knowledge, explain tendering processes clearly, and advise clients on appropriate procurement routes. Delegates will gain practical insight into how procurement strategy affects cost certainty, programme risk, quality outcomes, tender competition, and client decision-making.

Delivered face-to-face over two focused evening sessions, the programme combines structured teaching, Hong Kong market context, APC-style discussion, and practical examples. Delegates will receive electronic course materials to support learning during and after the sessions.

Why attend this paid CPD?

  • Build confidence in one of the key RICS competencies commonly tested in APC interviews.
  • Understand how to move beyond definitions and explain procurement choices using commercial logic.
  • Learn how procurement strategy affects risk allocation, cost certainty, tender competition, and project outcomes.
  • Gain practical examples and discussion points that can be applied in professional assessments and day-to-day project work.

Who should attend?

  • Surveyors and construction professionals seeking structured, formal CPD in procurement and tendering
  • RICS APC candidates who want to strengthen their Procurement and Tendering competency before final assessment
  • Referred candidates who need clearer explanations, stronger examples, and more confident professional advice

What makes this course different?

Rather than simply listing procurement routes, this course explains how to select, justify, and communicate procurement strategies in a professional context. The emphasis is on practical application, APC readiness, and the ability to provide reasoned advice to clients and project teams.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the main types of procurement.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the tendering and negotiation processes involved in procurement.

Apply your knowledge to implement the procurement routes selected for your projects and to carry out tendering and negotiation processes relevant to them.

Advise on the appropriateness of various procurement routes.

This module supports the RICS Procurement and Tendering competencies by developing knowledge of procurement routes and tendering processes, practical understanding of tender documentation and evaluation, and the ability to give reasoned procurement advice.
