Lime Mortars in Building Conservation Repairs

This seminar covers practical conservation issues to be aware of when using lime mortars and cements in historic and listed buildings.

Historic buildings constructed using traditional techniques need to be maintained correctly so that the fabric and materials can function in the manner in which the original builders intended.

Dr Duncan Philips specialises in listed buildings and presents the key considerations when using lime mortars and cements in listed buildings, including:

  • use of hydraulic and non-hydraulic lime mixes
  • using Portland cement
  • what is Roman cement?
