The Global Red Book is being updated through 2024. It will be updated to reflect:
The draft timeline for updates is currently early summer 2024 consultation, autumn 2024 publication with an effective date of 31 January 2025 for alignment with IVS, see below.
New International Valuation Standards (IVS) were published 31 January 2024. These included a revised structure and increased focus on ESG, data and valuation modelling. IVSC have given permission for RICS members to have individual access to the new IVS through our myRICS community here. You need to be a member of the my RICS community to use this link.
To align Global Red Book with these changes we are considering the following restructuring to be effective from 31 January 2025:
Each VPS will be updated with an introduction to reference IVS content.
If you have an interest in direct engagement on the Global Red Book update such as contributing to a forum or working group, please contact standards@rics.org.
Changes to RICS standards are subject to public consultation and governance of the Knowledge and Practice Committee and Standards and Regulation Board.
The latest edition of RICS Valuation – Global Standards ('Red Book Global Standards') is effective from 31st January 2022.
RICS translates the Red Book into some languages such as French and German, and for those where a translation is not available, we have provided supporting documents in English. If you think a document or translation is missing from this page, please contact us at standards@rics.org
The accompanying Red Book Global — Basis for conclusions explains the rationale behind updates in the latest version and highlights significant changes to ensure you can quickly identify what you must do differently to remain compliant. Specifically, it addresses the main refinements made as a consequence of the responses received to the public consultation. It has been produced purely to assist the reader and does not form part of the standards.

Since June 2015 the UK and global portions of the RICS Red Book have been issued separately.
Clarification on the relationship between Global Red Book 2017 and the UK national supplement.
As paragraph 4.3 of the RICS Valuation - Global Standards 2017 explains, for a number of jurisdictions RICS publishes national supplements to the Red Book global standards to assist members in the application of those standards in a local context.
The UK national supplement augments the Global Red Book for valuations that are subject to UK jurisdiction. The latest edition published on 14 November is effective for valuations where the valuation date is on or after 14 January 2019. The previous edition is effective for valuations where the valuation date is on or after 6 January 2014 (with certain elements effective from 1 January 2015) but before 14 January 2019.
The changes introduced in the 2018 UK national supplement (effective from 14 January 2019) are described in the separately published Basis for conclusions document, and also summarised at pages 138 – 140 in the Supplement itself.
