Overview
As renewables are growing at a significant rate, the importance of battery energy storage systems (BESS) cannot be understated. For companies, by increasing their use of these storage systems, it provides them with a competitive advantage as they are including services that enable the energy matrix to be more reliable and flexible.
With previous supply chain issues having been rectified for the most part, there are more manufacturers interested in large scale battery production. This is a positive development for energy storage projects as there will now be a higher level of innovation in energy density and safety features with the heightened level of competition.
From the perspective of landowners, through leasing land for these energy systems, it can signify a stable and long-term income. In terms of land suitability, battery energy storage sites generally need anywhere between two to fifteen acres of flat lying land. These sites also need to be situated in close proximity to existing infrastructure and in a place that reduces the impact on residential properties due to the potential increase of background noise which can be mitigated through processes such as acoustic fencing and a carefully considered choice of battery manufacturers.
