You will have lots of opportunity to ask questions and seek advice about your own experiences in this competency.

We will look at Rules of Conduct and money laundering, and will briefly summarise the key aspects of the Bribery Act 2010. Part two will focus on professional and ethical standards.

Meet the trainer:

Mr Gary Man FRICS, Managing Director of Greater China Asset Services

Gary is a Global Business Valuation Sub-board Member, Asia Business Valuation Committee Chairman and Asia Valuation Professional Group Member. He is also a Member of the RICS Asia Board and has over 25 years’ experience in valuation and consultancy.

He has been engaged in numerous assignments covering the Asia-Pacific region, such as China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and further west to India, Kazakhstan and the Republic of the Maldives. Gary also has academic experience and was a visiting lecturer at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) lecturing on Business and Intangible Assets Valuation and other topics.

Learning objectives

  • Provide real-life examples of compliance with one of the nine rules for members. This will be assessed by the presenter.
  • Provide real-life examples of the compliance with one of the fifteen rules for firms. This will be assessed by the presenter.
  • Be able to explain, with the use of examples, how to comply with money laundering regulations.
  • Be able to explain, with the use of examples, how to comply with the Bribery Act.
  • Provide real-life examples of the five professional and ethical standards. This will be assessed by the presenter.
  • Provide examples of potential conflicts of interest and how to avoid/deal with them.
  • Explain the main requirements of how to set up an RICS-regulated company.
