Safdar Hussain Hashmi, Impact Champion of the Year nominee

Safdar is Commercial Director of BAM Nuttall UK & I. His nomination in the Impact Champion category is centred around his contribution to the Eastern Green Link 2 project. One of the most significant strategic energy infrastructure developments the UK has seen in recent years, the project  is connecting the north of Scotland to Yorkshire via the sea.

On this high value and high impact project, Safdar took a a strategic approach to providing a constructive and supportive environment that offered clarity and kept disputes at bay. Safdar has instilled his principles of collaboration, trust and transparency from the outset. With just one claim made and resolved amicably since the project began in 2024, his impact is evident.

Hector Inglis, Land and Natural Resources Surveyor of the Year nominee

Hector is recognised as a pragmatic, dedicated and solutions-led professional, and praised for his ability to combine technical rigour with a forward-thinking mindset. His collaborative and communicative approach has led him to build successful relationships and outcomes both inside and outside of Ardent, where he is an Associate.

Hector is committed to supporting colleagues through mentorship and cultivation of an open and supportive working environment, and to establishing confidence with stakeholders through early, transparent and consistent engagement. His approach has led to increased collaborations and success in complex negotiations, with Hector often specifically requested for involvement in key projects. He is described as exemplifying what it means to be a modern surveyor; progressive, collaborative, and impactful.

Euan Livingstone, Student of the Year nominee

Euan’s recognition in the Student of the Year category hinges on his proactivity and commitment in everything he takes on. He is an apprentice building surveyor at Hardies Chartered Surveyors, where he has managed to make a significant impact while also juggling his studies.

Euan is praised for his dynamism in helping to attract new people into the profession, supporting at careers fairs, and visiting schools and universities, sharing his real world experience with confidence to help drive interest in surveying as a career choice. At least one person he interacted with is now pursuing a surveying degree.

His success and determination win out in a commercial sense, too, and Euan is credited with playing an instrumental role in landing an instruction with a major commercial institution on a large, mixed-use development.

His growth over the course of his training has been described as ‘remarkable’, and Euan has filled those he works alongside with excitement about the potential of his future career, and his impact on the profession.

Toby Stewart, Student of the Year nominee

Toby is a trainee surveyor at Savills, and a student at the University of Aberdeen. For two years, he has served as an RICS Campus Ambassador for the University of Aberdeen while also being a part of the RICS Matrics Aberdeen committee as its only student member. Through these roles he’s been able to make a real, lasting difference to students in his network, strengthening partnerships and creating opportunities for his peers.

Meanwhile, he has engaged in wider outreach, attending careers fairs, delivering a presentation about different pathways into the profession at RICS HQ, participating in RICS research and initiatives, and even hosting an RICS podcast.

He has been proactive not just in securing work experience for himself (he is currently preparing to join the September graduate scheme this September) but in using his network to facilitate opportunities for other students.

While Toby is at the beginning of his career, he is already immersed in the profession, contributing to its longevity, and improving student and professional experiences for others, too.
