The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster talent development in the real estate industry.
Signed by HKMU Vice President (Strategic Initiatives) and Acting Dean of the School Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming and the Chair of RICS Hong Kong Regional Advisory Board Ms Ada Fung FRICS, this MoU establishes a framework for collaboration between the two organisations to strengthen talent training for the real estate sector in Hong Kong. Key initiatives under the partnership include professional seminars, industry events, internship opportunities, and academic exchanges, all aimed at equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers while contributing to the advancement of the industry.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the RICS Certificate of Accreditation to HKMU, marking a significant milestone for the university. The certificate formally recognises that the programme “Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Real Estate and Surveying” offered by HKMU has met the academic requirements and has been awarded RICS accreditation. This accreditation reflects the programme’s high quality and alignment with international professional standards. Graduates will benefit from a fast-track route to becoming Chartered Surveyors, enabling them to undertake the assessment for full professional status after 24 months of relevant work experience.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Au highlighted the significance of the partnership. “This collaboration has been years in the making, and I am thrilled to see it come to fruition. With our programme accredited by RICS, one of the largest and most prestigious real estate professional boards in the world, our goal is not only to offer a top-notch education but also to nurture students into professionals who will contribute to society and become outstanding members of the community. This, ultimately, is what university education is all about.”
Ms Fung expressed her excitement about the partnership and commended HKMU’s dedication to achieving this milestone. “This MoU represents a shared vision to provide students with a strong foundation in real estate and surveying, enabling them to explore diverse pathways within the profession. RICS accreditation is a global recognition of high standards, ethics, and professionalism, and we are honoured to support HKMU students in their learning journey and future careers.”
