The South African Institute of Valuers (SAIV) was founded in 1909 as the national society of professional real estate valuers. The objective of the SAIV is to promote the common interests of persons carrying out the valuers’ profession. It is a voluntary professional organisation, and its purpose is to look after members’ interests. Today, SAIV represents more than 50% of registered valuers in South Africa. South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP) is the statutory regulatory body responsible for overseeing and promoting the property valuation profession in South Africa. Established under the Property Valuers Profession Act, the Council safeguards the public interest by ensuring that registered valuers meet high standards of competence, ethics, and professional accountability, while aligning valuation practices with international standards and supporting continuous professional development across the sector.
