Overview

This session will provide a practical and grounded understanding of how Artificial Intelligence is currently being applied across the built environment – including early-stage design modelling, clash detection, cost planning, scheduling, risk forecasting, site monitoring, and asset maintenance.

The session will focus on: 

• How AI is being used in real project workflows (local and international examples).
• How AI-supported tools are influencing decision-making and professional responsibility.
• The risks linked to data accuracy, algorithmic bias, and liability.
• The emerging skills gap and the need for capacity building.
• What changes we can realistically expect over the next few years, beyond speculative expectations of full automation.
   

The session is intended to support quantity surveyors, planners, project managers, valuation surveyors, academics, and students in developing a balanced understanding of AI’s current value and limitations.
