Overview

Many construction projects still rely on broad contingency allowances rather than a structured understanding of project risk. As projects become increasingly complex and budgets remain under pressure, this approach can lead to unnecessary cost, missed opportunities and poorly informed decision-making.

This webinar will explore how risk management can become a genuine value-adding process rather than simply a compliance exercise. Using RICS' Management of risk practice information as a foundation, our speakers will discuss how these principles can be applied within the New Zealand construction industry, including the growing use of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA).

Through practical examples from commercial, infrastructure and public sector projects, the panel will demonstrate how identifying, assessing and managing uncertainty can lead to more accurate contingencies, stronger business cases and better project outcomes. Following the presentation, a panel discussion will examine how organisations across New Zealand are adopting these approaches, the challenges they face, and where the profession is heading.
