Overview

The 2026 updates to Welsh Building Regulations represent a comprehensive reform of building safety, procedural requirements, and energy efficiency standards. Stakeholders must review project arrangements, procurement processes, and dutyholder responsibilities to ensure compliance from 1st July 2026. The Welsh system emphasises local authority oversight, competence, and accountability, with specific provisions for higher-risk buildings and domestic clients.

This free CPD is being run by Mark Tambini FCABE, Welsh Government Head of Building Regulations Policy, leading building safety and regulatory reforms.

Mark was appointed of Head of Building Regulations Policy for the Welsh Government after nearly two decades in the building control industry. He holds a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and began his career as a design consultant before moving into building control in 2010, gaining extensive experience in fire safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, and overall construction compliance.

Mark is a regular speaker on Building Safety at the annual RICS Wales Conference.
