The Role

We are now recruiting for three roles on Governing Council for Appointed Members.

Each Appointed Member will possess qualifications in their area of expertise and will be expected to contribute their skills and experience to enhance the decision-making and strategy-setting capabilities of Governing Council.

We are seeking candidates with a skill set in one of the following:

  • Legal Expertise
  • Accountancy/Financial Expertise
  • Marketing/Communications Expertise

The Appointed Member may be independent or a RICS Member, and so this presents an opportunity for RICS Members who are qualified in any of these areas to be involved with Governing Council.

About the Roles

In their role, the Appointed Member will offer advice and guidance to fellow Governing Council members and will assist Governing Council in making well-informed decisions from the standpoint of their area of expertise.

The Appointed Member with Legal Expertise will also support Governing Council in the safeguarding of RICS’ legal interests.

The Appointed Member with Accountancy/Financial Expertise will also support Governing Council with scrutinising and monitoring RICS financial performance and financial risks.

The Appointed Member with Marketing/Communications Expertise will also support Governing Council by providing insights on marketing, communications, and brand-building strategies.

Governing Council

Governing Council is the governing body of RICS. Ultimate responsibility for RICS and the power to act in all matters in the name of RICS rests with Governing Council.  It sets the vision for RICS and is responsible for articulating the strategy to achieve this vision.

Governing Council members need to be familiar with the range of matters which fall directly under Council's collective responsibility, and the processes governing the ways in which Council is required to discharge these responsibilities.

Given the role of Governing Council, its members need to exercise independent thought, and to be able to contribute to a vision and a strategy to secure the future of the profession and for the wider public interest.
