Hot topics in Construction Law

Ledingham Chalmers will be your hosts at a legal workshop running from 9.30am until 1pm on Monday 24 June 2024.

With an aim to offer straightforward, practical advice for those working in the construction and property sector, construction lawyers Sarah Stuart and Jennifer Young will work through examples on topics including —

  • The JCT Design and Build Contract 2024—what’s changed?
  • You’ve avoided signing a collateral warranty – but is a contractual obligation to provide one enough to create third party rights anyway? What did the court say in Engine Yard Edinburgh & Allenbuild v Bayne Stevenson?
  • Variations – are they a good thing?
  • Loss and expense – what can actually be claimed?
  • Conditions precedent in construction contracts – ask for permission, not forgiveness – lessons from FES Limited –v- HFD Construction Limited
  • Termination of construction contracts – a checklist for when a breach is alleged – who does what, when and why?
  • A checklist for avoiding disputes under a construction contract – from those who are consulted when things go off the rails

If you sign up by 10th June, you’ll have the chance to pose any legal issues that are on your mind ahead of time, and we’ll try to incorporate the answers (anonymously) into the session.

Otherwise, come along to pick up a bacon roll at 9.30am and quiz our panel on the day.
