Survey of the Profession: have your say

Our latest global survey of the profession is now open and we need your views to help us set our agenda for next year and beyond.

In this rapidly changing world that is having a profound impact on the built and natural environment, it’s more important than ever that you tell us your views about the profession and RICS’ role as your professional body.

About the survey

This biannual survey is a key opportunity to express your opinions and suggestions, which helps us continually improve in line with what you have told us. As a token of our appreciation, we will enter survey participants into a draw to win a £250 Amazon Voucher (or local international equivalent). The survey link will be sent to all RICS professionals via email from Quadrangle, an independent market research agency, on RICS’ behalf to ensure impartiality and confidentiality.

What you told us last time

From the last survey earlier this year, you told us you’d like us to be clearer about how what we do delivers value to you as RICS professionals. We’ve taken that on board and are working to ensure we articulate that clearly in everything we do. You also told us that our communications could be better tailored and targeted, so you received things that are relevant and of interest to you, so we’re working hard to keep our data up-to-date, making it easier to find what you need on rics.org and giving you opportunities to opt out of receiving emails that you don’t find useful.

Our findings also saw that younger professionals were more satisfied with RICS than professionals who were more advanced in their careers, so we are working to ensure our products and services offer value to you at all stages of your career.

Since the last survey, we’ve been leading a variety of initiatives to promote the value of the profession:

  • We have continued to drive adoption of our international standards and create demand for the profession, including State Grid Corporation of China and PwC in the UK
  • We’re continuing to promote diversity and encourage more young people into the profession through apprenticeships
  • We’re influencing government policy in a number of critical areas including fire safety, and protecting the value of your qualification by upholding standards of professionalism
  • We have been leading on work to better capture the value of sustainability in built assets, directly linking to our standards and helping create demand for the profession
  • Through our World Built Environment Forum, we are continuing to drive the global conversation and highlight practical solutions to the most pressing challenges in our sector, demonstrating the skills and expertise of our profession
  • We’re developing our Futures strategy for launch at the end of 2019, setting out how RICS will support the profession to respond to rapid technological change.

The insights we get from this survey enable us to track our performance and are continually guiding our strategic planning to help us set our agenda for next year and beyond.
